How to look after your skin in Winter?
Skincare is important all year round, but during the winter months, it’s time to turn it up a notch. Base your beauty routine around adding as much moisture to your skin as possible. The colder conditions dry the skin significantly, so follow our easy tips to help lock in hydration this winter.
1. Moisturiser is a must
Waving goodbye to the summer means it’s time to switch up the skincare. The warmer months mean using lightweight moisturisers with high SPF. But it’s time to dust off your heavy-duty moisturiser for another winter. Choose products with ingredients such as shea butter and avocado oil. Or try a few drops of our beauty oil before you apply your make up every morning. Ensure you’re using moisturiser every time you step outside. Those strong winds and dropping temperatures seriously dehydrate the skin!
2. Avoid harsh products
We always recommend avoiding perfumed products and harsh exfoliants, but this rule is sacrosanct during the winter. They are super drying and strip the skin of naturally occurring oils. These oils help to keep the skin supple and plump. It’s also worth noting the drying effects some active acids can have too. Currently the trendiest buzzword of the skincare industry, using too many active acids, too often, can cause severely dry, irritated skin. Do your research before investing into this trend, particularly if you have sensitive skin.
3. Diet is key
We mention it time and time again here at Wildtree Skincare. Good skin starts from within! During the winter, be sure to incorporate as many fruits and vegetables into your diet as possible. Whilst these foods are not only full of antioxidants and vitamins that nourish the skin, but they are also powerhouses when it comes to fending off any winter colds! Aim to fill your plate with a variety of plant-based foods, as well as ‘fatty’ foods such as nuts and avocados. These healthy fats will plump and soften the skin.
4. Allow your skin to repair
Sleep is magical. For the mind, body and for your skin! Lack of sleep can really wreak havoc on your skin, leaving your complexion looking dull and lifeless. During a good night’s sleep is when the skin can repair itself. It’s important to help this healing process along the way. Throughout the winter, ensure you are using a serum or oil before you go to sleep every night. Our Baobab oil is the perfect edition to your night-time skin care routine. Baobab oil is fantastic at improving the skin’s elasticity and can find out more about this powerful, natural powerhouse here.
5. Don’t forget your hands!
All this focus on how to look after your face, it’s easy to forget about your hands! Our hands go through so much in a day, not to mention the constant exposure to the wintery conditions. Save the sore hands and carry some hand cream in your bag every day. Some gloves wouldn’t go amiss either! We recommend a hand cream with papaya because the fruit contains enzymes that naturally exfoliate dead skin, whilst also hydrating and replenishing. With the emphasis on hand washing this winter, remember to also show them some TLC with a super hydrating moisturizer.
