What is Mineral oil, and why you should stay away from it!
Let’s make it straight from the start… You will never find mineral oil in Wildtree Skincare products! Ever! In fact, I wish that you could never find mineral oil in any of your skincare brands! Why would anyone want to put petroleum-based products on their face?!
What is mineral oil?
Mineral oil is a clear, odorless oil which is derived from petroleum. The lowest grade of this chemical is used to lubricate car engines and equipment; the highest grade is used in the skincare industry. It is a byproduct of petroleum refinement and is considered petrochemicals.
Many brands would say that mineral oil is “safe to use, has amazing moisturizing properties and doesn’t cause irritation. It works as a barrier between the skin and the air (not great news for acne-prone skin btw!). It acts as an occlusive agent, which means it prevents water from leaving your body through your skin”.
That is true, but they don’t tell you that they are using this highly processed ingredient because it is cheap and has a long shelf life. It can be clogging your pores and is bad for acne-prone skin. You should also avoid it when you struggle with blackheads.
Mineral oil will not nourish your skin!
What it looks like on the ingredient list?
Paraffinum Liquidum, Paraffin, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Cera Microcristallina. Most frequently used in cosmetics: paraffin oil (INCI: Paraffinum Liquidum) and Vaseline (INCI: Petrolatum)
What is the alternative for mineral oil?
Jojoba Oil which is a beautiful liquid wax. It will not only create a barrier on your skin to prevent water evaporation. It will also provide anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, non-comedogenic properties and will help control sebum production! Isn’t that better!?
Mineral Oil might be “safe” but is not good enough for your skin. You deserve better!
